A Life Gain

There is hurt leaving the universe through the life of my son
the pain I once owned through him is undone
there are hurts that are mine that he will not know
and there are depths of despair to which he will not go
his life won’t be perfect I know this fully well
but if I can bring him closer to Heaven and further away from hell
then I say that my time on this planet shall not have been in vain
and when I rest in peace my life will indeed have been a gain
