Such Comfort
by Jason Tomlinson
We all need comfort from the moment we arrive
crying out – mercy! – brand new and alive
the first five minutes set a lifetime’s tone
drawing near to the one we call our own
and more importantly she calls us the same
and there is love when she calls – the sound of my name
when she wants my attention is unlike any other I know
her sound her touch her appearance she is the soil in which we grow
it’s the comfort she provided that nourished us root to leaf
it’s her constant comfort that brought forth solace and relief
in times of good and times of bad
it was she who made us glad
maintaining a level like no other
comfort such comfort from the hand of our mother
